- Guernsey is a fantastic product, a short distance from some of the world's largest population centres - a reasonable sized, thriving tourist industry should be a slam-dunk opportunity.
- Transport is one key - as you will see elsewhere in this manifesto I see the strategic management of Aurigny to be a key to the future, as is enhancement of reliable sea travel and scheduling. During the COVID period we should consider fixed price seats.
- The housing department has worked very hard to make its processes easier, but this does not address the fundamental question as to whether such stringent controls are necessary or in the best interests of our economy. I believe provisions for hospitality staff should be far less restrictive.
- As with many of our issues, there is inevitable inter-linking - if we develop our harbours we will have more visitors, for example, and more people therefore inclined to return if they have a good experience - investments in infrastructure will have many positive indirect effects on our economy. With this in mind, Environment and Infrastructure often exhibit opposing objectives and don't sit well together. Perhaps it would be better if they were separated.
